A US-owned bulk carrier has been targeted off the southwestern coast of the strategic port city of Aden, Yemen. This incident, as reported by the British maritime security firm Ambrey, was the retaliatory operation conducted by Yemen's armed forces.

Iran Press/ West Asia: The Barbados-flagged, publicly US-owned vessel was reportedly near Aden when a nearby ship observed an explosion, indicating a direct strike that inflicted damage on the carrier. Ambrey's brief statement highlighted that a rescue operation was promptly initiated, with several crew members taking to lifeboats.

Yemen's armed forces have conducted operations against Israeli-linked ships since November 2023. Their operations aim to compel the Israeli government to halt its genocidal actions in the besieged Gaza Strip, showcasing a determined shift to expand their maritime strikes in retaliation for the continued aggression.

The backdrop to this intensifying maritime conflict involves the broader context of retaliatory strikes between Yemen and the coalition of the United States and Britain. These countries have launched operations against Yemen since early January, aiming to deter the strikes on Israel-linked ships.

The statement from Yemen says that attacks against shipping in the Red Sea will cease only once the Israeli regime ends the blockade of Gaza.
