Iran Press/America: Fairfax County police released bodycam footage of the incident, which appears to show Officer Tyler Timberlake using a stun gun on the man without provocation.
Chief of Police Col. Edwin C. Roessler Jr. in a news conference on Saturday night said that the footage, dated Friday, June 5 showed the officer violating the department's use-of-force policies and committing "criminal acts" that "violate our oath of office" and "ignore the sanctity of human life."
Officer Tyler Timberlake was arrested Saturday after Fairfax County police and prosecutors reviewed body-worn camera footage of the incident, which appeared to show he used the stun gun on the victim multiple times and sticking his knees on the man’s neck and back without obvious provocation.
At the news conference, Fairfax County Police Chief called the use of force “horrible” and the officer has been relieved of duty and is also under an administrative investigation.
All the other officers at the scene also have been relieved of duty pending outcomes of the criminal and administrative investigations, police said.
The officer's charges come as outrage erupted over other violent videos of police encounters, such as footage of two Buffalo officers seen shoving a 75-year-old protester. The officers in this scene now face criminal charges as well.
The death of George Floyd, 46, a black man who died on 25 May after he was pinned down by a white Minnesota police officer, has sparked outrage and protests in Minneapolis, across the United States, and around the world and highlight several problems which have been evident in the United States for a long time; human rights violation, police brutality and racism especially against African Americans. 205
