Iran Press/ America: “UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stressed the need for a prompt, thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s death and full accountability for those responsible,” UN deputy spokesperson, Farhan Haq said on Monday, Xinhua news agency reported.
The UN issued a statement over the weekend, saying that its' chief was “deeply troubled” by Saudi Arabia's confirmation of Khashoggi's death.
The Secretary-General also extended his condolences to Khashoggi’s family and friends.
On 20 October, Saudi Arabia admitted dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi died shortly after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and claimed that he was killed in a “fist-fight”.

Khashoggi's disappearance has evolved into a full-fledged international diplomatic crisis for the Saudi government, led by Bin Salman. Bin Salman cast himself as a progressive reformer, but the disappearance and possible murder of a critical voice against his government has thrown Bin Salman's relationship with foreign leaders and organizations into question.
The 59-year-old Saudi investigative journalist, who had left the country since Mohammad Bin Salman became crown prince of Saudi Arabia, and moved to the US, vanished on 2 October after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to collect documents for his forthcoming marriage.
