Tehran (IP) - Iran's traditional fundraising ritual was held in Tehran to release the prisoners who have been jailed due to their finantial debts.

Iran PressIran news: Iran's traditional fundraising ritual dubbed as Golrizan was set up in the presence of a group of Iranian sports benefactors in the Zurkhaneh of Javanmardan in Tehran, and funds were collected for the release of prisoners.

The ceremony which was held last night (Friday) was the first ceremony of this kind in 1401, which tried to be carried out via observing health protocols.

According to Iran Press News Agency, in this ceremony, which was held in Zurkhaneh, Tehran, Seyed Hamid Sajjadi, Minister of Sports and Youth, as the highest official present at the ceremony, emphasized the need to revive zurkhaneh sports and appreciated the national media to introduce this sport discipline to the youth.

The Minister of Sports and Youth also called on the Zurkhaneh and Pahlavani sports authorities to work to introduce the positive points of this sport, better than ever before.

Before starting the fundraising, Pahlavan Mohammad Reza Topchi, who has two wrestling armbands in 1987 and 1989, along with a group of young people and veterans of Zurkhaneh, performed wrestling and Zurkhaneh sports activities.

It is worth mentioning that Golrizan ritual is a part of the great history of Iranians. According to historians, this tradition has been observed since the Mongol invasion in 'Bashtin' of Khorasan.

At that time, to help the needy, the chapmpions (Pahlavans) spread a red carpet in the Zurkhaneh and provided the collected aid to the needy.

Pahlavan is a title, it is the combination of the English words Champion and Hero; it can designate someone really strong. Yet the strength is not measured physically only. A Pahlavan is expected to be able to cross mountains, deserts, and waters (physically and emotionally).
