Iran Press/Iran news: The deputy head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament (Majlis), Kamal Dehghani Firouzabadi, has stressed that Iran will act independently within the international community, according to its own interests and principles.
In an exclusive interview with Iran Press Dehghani Firouzabadi commented on recent hostile anti-Iran remarks by a number of US officials saying: "The Islamic Republic wants to safeguard its national interests and national security. Iran also wants to ensure regional security, particularly security of neighbouring states. We have excellent relations with neighbouring countries, and as far as international relations is concerned we respect international laws and conventions."
Commenting further Dehghani Firouzabadi said: "One of the established principles of international law is honouring the treaties and agreements that you sign, and honouring the pledges that you make. The Islamic Republic of Iran has always honoured the treaties to which we are a signatory, but in contrast, the United States does not honour the treaties that it has signed, does not respect international laws and conventions, and does not honour its pledges."
He pointedly added: "America's leadership not only disrespects and dishonours the Iran nuclear deal, it has also openly violated UN security council resolution 2231, which was unanimously approved by the security council and is a binding resolution. America has flouted security council resolution 2231, showing its disrespect for international law."
The deputy head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Majlis also indicated that even US allies have criticised the Trump administration for the misguided and incorrect policies it is pursuing in the Middle East and elsewhere.
