US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo

The US Secretary of State, and former head of the CIA, Mike Pompeo, sought to justify CIA crimes by responding to the release of a film about torture.

Iran Press/America: The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo wrote in his Twitter account on Saturday morning that "I watched The Report. Fiction. To be clear: the bad guys are not our intelligence warriors. The bad guys are the terrorists."

"To my former colleagues and all of the patriots at CIA who have kept us safe since 9/11: America supports you, defends you and has your back. So do I," he added according to Iran Press.

Pompeo had been in charge of the CIA since Donald Trump's presidency from the beginning of 2017 and was in that position until the beginning of 2018. Subsequently, Gina  Haspel, who was accused of ordering torture and abuse of prisoners, and the destruction of related documents, replaced Pompeo.

US intelligence agencies have resorted to torture in the wake of 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks in what was termed "Enhanced interrogation techniques", which was later widely criticized as well as congressional investigations.

In 2007, it was revealed that there had been videos of torture of two al-Qaeda members in a secret detention center in Thailand that had been abolished by CIA executives in 2005.
