Iran Press/Africa: Several protesters have been wounded by Algerian police forces near the presidential palace in central Algiers.
The clashes come towards the end of a protest against Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s bid to stand for a fifth term in April elections, Reuters reported.
Tens of thousands took part in protest marches in Algiers and other cities which began in the early afternoon after Friday prayers.
According to authorities seven protesters and more than 50 officers were injured, with 45 people arrested.
"Twenty years are enough," said one woman, quoted by AFP news agency, who was joined by her husband and children.
Protests sweeping across Algeria for the past few weeks have called for wholesale regime change.
