Sanandaj (IP) - Religious ceremony on Laylat al-Qadr was held at Sanandaj's Hussainia, the capital of Kurdistan province, western Iran, while observing health protocols.

Iran Press/Iran News: On the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS), the first Shia Imam, the religious ceremony on Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Destiny, was held Tuesday at Sanandaj's Hussainia, observing health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

With the decision of the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus, Laylat al-Qadr religious ceremonies can be held in the open spaces and Shabestans of the pilgrimage sites, while observing social distancing and health protocols.

Laylat al-Qadr or the Night of Destiny is the night of the revelation of the Qur'an to the Prophet Muhammad (S).

The exact date of Laylat al-Qadr is unknown. However, according to many traditions, Shias hold religious ceremonies on the eve of 19th, 21st, and 23rd of the month of Ramadan, with staying awake the whole night, reciting Qur'an, praying, and performing other rituals.

On the morning of Ramadan 19, Imam Ali (AS) was struck with a poison-coated sword by a Kharijite called Ibn Muljam al-Muradi and was martyred from its injury two days later.
