Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation

Iran PressAfrica: Abiy Ahmed was named as the winner of the 100th Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, where he will receive the award in December.

When Abiy Ahmed became Prime Minister on April 2018, he made it clear that he wished to resume peace talks with neighbouring Eritrea.

In close cooperation with the President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki, the Ethiopian prime minister quickly worked out the principles of a peace agreement to end the long 'no peace, no war' stalemate between the two countries, BBC reported.

Ethiopia reached a peace deal with Eritrea last year, ending a 20-year military stalemate following their 1998-2000 border war.
