The Non-Aligned Movement has called on the US to quickly lift restrictions on diplomats of some of its member states, including Iranian diplomats.

Iran Press/America: Iran’s envoy to the United Nations Eshaq Ale-Habib on Wednesday evening in the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement said: "The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) emphasizes the vital role played by host states and UN offices in maintaining multilateralism and facilitating multilateral diplomacy and intergovernmental norms."

He further noted, "The Non-Aligned Movement expresses its serious concern about the arbitrary restrictions imposed on official diplomats of some of its members by the UN host country. These restrictions are a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, UN headquarters' Agreements and International Law."

Iran's envoy to the UN stated that the Non-Aligned Movement intends to submit a brief resolution to the UN General Assembly to hold the host country responsible for not implementing the UN headquarters agreement and the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.

The US government has imposed new and tougher restrictions on Iranian diplomats and officials entering the United States, limiting the movement of diplomats and their families to a small area of New York City, close to the United Nations building.
