Iran Press/ Middle East: On January 3, General Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) deputy head Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated near Baghdad airport.
Former United States President Donald Trump had ordered the attack, which faced opposing reactions from inside the United States as well.
Two days after the US assassination operation, Iraqi lawmakers approved a bill demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by Washington.
The demonstration is scheduled to take place at 13:00 local time.
On Friday, demonstrators also gathered in front of Baghdad's fortified Green Zone, which hosts diplomatic buildings, including the US embassy, to remember General Soleimani and al-Muhandis. The demonstrators were carrying the national flag and holding up posters of Gen Soleimani and al-Muhandis.
Demonstrators burned a model of the US embassy in Iraq with the US and Israeli flags on it.
They also built and burned a model of the US diplomatic mission in Iraq to express their strong dissent against the US leaders and any American presence in the Arab country. Meanwhile, Iraqi cyberspace activists have been trending hashtags since last night, calling for the complete withdrawal of the American occupiers from Iraq, urging people to participate in today's rally of millions.
The head of the al-Fatah alliance, Hadi al-Ameri, was one of the speakers in the ceremony.
