Iran Press/Iran news: The residents of Kiasar, a town in Mazandaran province in northern Iran, observe a tradition of feeding the mourners and followers of the chief of martyrs, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) during the mourning month of Muharram.
The tradition is known as Pelakhar (which in Persian literally translates as the one who eats rice), according to which the residents of various districts of Kiasar feed a huge crowd of mourners on each day of the first ten days of the month of Muharram. This age-old tradition is carried out each day by a particular district of the town of Kiasar such as the "Kurdkheil district" or the "Ahangarkheil district" of the town, Iran Press reported.
The Pelakhar tradition was registered as part of Iran's national heritage in 2018. Residents of Kiasar cook local foods for the mourners and followers of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
