The martyrs strengthened and solidified the foundations of this colossal and glorious structure with their blood, they watered this sapling with their blood, turning it into a mighty and well-rooted tree.
In every field, in every discipline, the opportunity for endeavour and Jihad is there, and the culmination of Jihad is martyrdom.

Seyyed Ali Khamenei
27 September 2018
22 September is the anniversary of the start of eight years of imposed war on Iran by the former Ba'athist regime of Iraq. The eight-year-war started on 22 September 1980.
The Sacred Defence Week is from 22 to 28 September each year.
Earlier on Wednesday Sep 26, 2018, the Leader of the Islamic revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei lashed out at Western countries for their double-standards regarding the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs).
The Leader made the remarks in a meeting with a group of war-time commanders, veterans and artists on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week, marking the anniversary of the eight-year-imposed-war on Iran, reported Press TV.
In his remarks Ayatollah Khamenei said: "Despite the West's current ballyhoo over accusations of using chemical weapons, they provided Saddam's regime with deadly chemical weapons used not only in the war fronts but also against civilian populations in cities like Sardasht."
The Leader said the Islamic Republic was under economic and political sanctions in those years, and the Iranian nation’s voice could not be heard in the world, because mainstream global media was (and is) controlled by Zionists."
