The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it agreed to allow 5,000 Afghan refugees to cross the country to be transferred to a third country.

Iran Press/ Middle East: The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said: "This agreement is based on the recommendation of the Emir of Kuwait."

Kuwait's agreement to allow Afghan nationals to cross comes as some Kuwaiti lawmakers opposed the Kuwaiti government's acceptance of US military translators for fear of retaliation by the Taliban on August 1.

Following these developments, the Kuwaiti Progressive Movement issued a statement saying: "This action by the government shows its dependence on and commitment to the United States, and there is a concern that Kuwait will become a settlement for the forces involved in Afghanistan."
