The Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi

The Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has emphasised that if the Europeans do not fulfil their obligations, Iran will consider a set of options including a further increase in uranium enrichment.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said Iran is considering increasing uranium enrichment to a level which is needed for producing nuclear fuel rods needed in electricity-generating power plants.

According to Kamalvandi, at the moment the level of Uranium enrichment stands at 4.5 percent, Iran Press reported.

Kamalvandi pointedly added: "If the other parties do not fulfil their obligations, Iran will consider a range of options including increasing Uranium enrichment, the use of advanced centrifuges as well as increasing the number of centrifuges. We have many choices for the third and fourth steps."

The Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran added: "If the country decides to enrich uranium to 20 percent level, we can certainly do it, but for now we don't need to do so."

He added: "Currently, the remaining parties to the nuclear deal have been given a 60-day opportunity; so if they carry out their obligations, we can reverse the steps that we have taken, and we will also fulfil our obligations."

Iran has announced before that it will scale down its commitments to JCPOA, in the first phase, said it would start enriching uranium as much as it needs and more than 3.67% purity limit which has been set as a cap in the JCPOA.

Tehran also announced it will modernise its Arak heavy water reactor, stopping short of plans to convert it to a nuclear research facility. The Iranian measures will be a proper response to Europe’s failure to continue its commercial and business ties with Tehran. 101/211/207
