Tehran (IP) – July 6 has been registered as World Zoonoses Day, aiming at involving all organizations to control and prevent zoonoses' spread.

Iran Press/Europe: On July 6, 1885, Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first rabies vaccine to rescue a bitten animal.

Rabies and animal bites, Malaria, Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever, anthrax, leptospirosis, and hydatid cyst are the most important zoonoses.

Viruses, bacteria, parasites, and prions (the cause of bovine insanity) are the factors causing zoonoses.

Some zoonoses are associated with very high mortality of up to 100%, such as rabies and pulmonary anthrax.

Curbing zoonoses requires the cooperation of all relevant organizations and ministries, especially the Iranian Veterinary Organization, Department of Environment, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

Raising public awareness about preventive measures for zoonoses also plays an important role in curbing them.
