Tehran (IP) - The spokesman for Iran's Judiciary, Gholamhossein Esmaeili, has confirmed that no negotiations have taken place on the subject of prisoner exchange between the Islamic Republic and the United States.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, the new judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaeili also had a word of warning for government officials and ministers who comment of Judicial matters. He pointedly said: "I ask all officials not to comment on Judicial matters without prior coordination with senior Judiciary officials."

It should be noted that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had mooted the idea of a prisoner exchange during his recent trip to the United Nations in New York. Zarif had said Iran and United States should exchange prisoners, he said he had sufficient authority to perform this task and he said he was ready to do so.

Zarif had also said the idea of prisoner exchange between Tehran and Washington had been floated six months ago but the Americans had not shown any interest.
