Iran Press/ Middle East: He said that Israeli troops set up the caravans at the junction of Beit Hagai, one of some 30 colonial settlements Israel has constructed in Hebron district, to serve as a nucleus for the expropriation of more Palestinian land and settlement expansion.
There are over 700,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The number of settlers has almost tripled since the Oslo Accords of 1993 when settlers’ number estimated 252,000. Illegal colonial settlements have leapt from 144 to over 515 in that time.
Israel’s nation-state law that passed last July stated that building and strengthening the colonial settlements is a “national interest.”
Israeli Supreme Court, in a strange and anti-human rights act, has ruled to seize and evacuate a number of Palestinian homes in the Sheikh Jarrah area of occupied al-Quds.
Palestinians living in Sheikh Jarrah staged large-scale demonstrations in the area in protest of the Israeli regime, which was severely repressed by the Israeli forces.
In the aftermath of these incidents, the Palestinian movements also warned in statements about any foolishness of the Zionist regime to harm and displace the residents of the Sheikh Al-Jarrah.
The Palestinians own the land in al-Quds under an agreement reached in 1965 between the Jordanian government and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East).
According to the latest reports, at least 230 people, including 65 children, have been killed in Gaza since the latest violence began more than a week ago. Some 1,500 Palestinians were also wounded.
