Iran Press/Middle East: Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has allegedly said that the Zionist regime will join the US-led naval coalition in the Persian Gulf, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.
He also claimed that the move is along with the anti-Iran policy in the region as well as so-called cementing ties with the other Arab Persian Gulf States.
According to an Israeli daily Yedioth Aharonoth, Katz said that he had recently met a 'high ranking persona' from the United Arab Emirates, to improve ties between Israel and Arab states.
US administration has recently put forward a proposal to set up a naval task force in the Persian Gulf to counter what it calls the 'Iran threat' as tensions mount between Washington and Tehran. However, European countries like Germany and Spain have given the 'cold shoulder' to a Trump administration proposal to set up a military coalition in the Persian Gulf.
Meanwhile, many German politicians have reportedly expressed grave reservations about any naval mission led by the United States, fearing that such a naval task force would only increase the risk of military aggression against Iran.
On July 20, Iran's foreign minister said his country guarantees the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. "As I said in NY, it is IRAN that guarantees the security of the Persian Gulf & the Strait of Hormuz," Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet.
