Iran Press/Iran news: Reacting to Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif's resignation, Commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Qassem Soleimani said: "Mohammad Javad Zarif is the head of Iran's foreign policy and he has always been supported by senior high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic."
By saying that Zarif was and is especially supported by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Major General Qassem Soleimani noted: "Regularly, Zarif has done some precious acts which have benefited Iran. He has also followed the path in the fight against the enemies of Islamic Republic," Iran Press reported.
By referring to Zarif's absence in the recent meeting between President of Syria Bashar Assad and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Soleimani said: "During Assad's visit to Tehran, Zarif was absent because of an unintentional failure, lapse or oversight by the Presidential office staff."
"The evidence shows that there was no ill-intention in connection with Zarif's absence from the meeting," the Commander of the Quds Force of the IRGC noted.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday rejected a resignation letter tendered by his foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif.
A majority of Iranian lawmakers earlier on Tuesday have signed a letter to President Hassan Rouhani, calling on him not to accept Foreign Minister Zarif's resignation. 101/211/201
