Iran Press/Middle East: In a statement on Thursday, Hassan Karim Al Kaabi strongly condemned the US Embassy's interference in Iraq's internal affairs, saying the United States was seeking a conspiracy in Iraq.
"Leave the Iraqi issues to the Iraqis and proceed to complete the evacuation of your forces from the country as soon as possible,” the official said on Thursday.
The US embassy in Baghdad on Wednesday issued an interventionist statement calling on the Iraqi government to stop what it called a "crackdown on protesters" in Najaf.
On October 1, anti-government rallies erupted in Iraq and lasted for one week, with demonstrators protesting against unemployment, corruption and poor living conditions.
The new round of popular demonstrations in Iraq in a peaceful manner began as of October 25, in various cities, including Baghdad the capital, Karbala, Basra, Najaf and other cities in protest at corruption and the poor state of the economy.
The Iraqis peaceful protests are aimed at forcing the government to meet their demands.
Iraq's parliament approved a plan on January 5 to expel foreign troops from Iraq despite some obstructions.
The Iraqi parliament's move came after Lieutenant-General Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), were martyred in US airstrikes in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on January 3, upon Donald Trump’s direct order.
Millions of Iraqis staged a demonstration in Baghdad on Friday 24 January and called for US military forces to leave their country.
