Baku (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in Baku on Wednesday.

Iran Press/ Asia: The top Iranian diplomat traveled to the Republic of Azerbaijan to attend a ministerial Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting. Amir-Abdollahian held talks with President Aliyev on the sidelines of the conference.

In April, Amir-Abdollahian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhoun Bayramov held two rounds of intensive talks to settle problems and correct misunderstandings between the two countries. Both emphasized the importance of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In June, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated that Tehran and Baku had engaged in several rounds of talks to mend strained relations following a fatal attack on the embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran in January. The armed attack killed one staff member and injured two others. Consequently, the Baku government closed its embassy in Tehran.
