Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press news agency on Sunday, Ali-Asghar Yousefnejad, a member of the presiding board of Majlis, and senior MP said: "Chabahar is one of the major ports in Iran, very important for trade, and part of a free trade zone".
"Due to its geopolitical location and well-developed port infrastructure, Chabahar is central to Iran's substantial trade with south east Asia, and an invaluable asset," Yousefnejad said.

Stressing that Chabahar has a bright future ahead of it, the Iranian MP continued: "The government, parliament and all executive institutions which are involved in some way in economic free zones have to support Chabahar, and help to further develop the facilities and infrastructure at Chabahar".
"Due to the port's facilities and capacities to handle large volumes of cargo and freight, we should not let investors, traders, exporters and importers ignore Chabahar" the MP said.
Turning to importance of another special trade zone -- the port of AmirAbad, in Beh'shahr in northern Iran -- Yousefnejad said: "This port has a very special status in northern Iran, and the facilities at the port should be further enhanced with the help and participation of Central Asian countries".
"More serious measures have to be taken to improve and further expand and enhance Amirabad port, so that it becomes a free port, very active, with a booming trade" he added.
Chabahar is the only oceanic port of Iran, located in the far southeast corner of the country, right next to the Sea of Oman, close to the border with Pakistan, and with easy access to the Indian ocean.
The unilateral measures that will hit oil exports, shipping and banks, are the most concrete result yet of US President Donald Trump’s controversial decision in May to abandon the multi-nation nuclear deal with Tehran.
US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the nuclear agreement in May and reintroduced the first round of sanctions on Iran in August.
However, US administration has approved a sanctions exemption for Iran’s southeastern port city of Chabahar in November 2018.
