Iran's Foreign Ministry has once again highlighted the important responsibilities of the international community, specifically the United Nations, in bringing to an end the organised occupation of Palestine, including the occupation of the city of al-Quds.

Iran Press/Iran news: According to an Iran Press report, the foreign ministry in Tehran issued a statement on Tuesday, on the occasion of the Day of Nakba, declaring Tehran's full support for the Palestinian people and urging the United Nations to help the Palestinian people to determine their own fate and form an independent Palestinian State with the city of al-Quds as its capital.

The foreign ministry statement emphasises that more than seven decades after the occupation of the historic land of Palestine by the Zionists, the international community and specifically the United Nations needs to take urgent and effective action to bring to an end Israel's crimes and atrocities against Palestinians, to pave the way for return of long-suffering Palestinian refugees to their homeland, and also to bring about conditions for a referendum in Palestine in which all Palestinians, whether Muslim Christian or Jew can take part to determine how they want to run their country.

The statement goes on to say: On this day, the Day of Nakba in 1948, the illegal Zionist regime came into existence with America's support and the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. The Zionist regime has continued its existence with wars, crimes, aggression and occupation of other people's lands. Today the Zionist regime is the real cause of instability in the Middle East and is a real threat to regional peace and security.

14 May 2019 marks the 71st anniversary of expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland and 15 May 2019 is the 71st anniversary of formation of the Zionist regime of Israel.  211/103
