Iranian Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to United Nations Eshagh Al Habib condemned Zionist regime oppression against Palestiniana and said that the law means the legalization of “racism and apartheid, and ultimately, it means legitimizing exclusion, segregation and systemic inequality.”
Iranian Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to United Nations recalled the General Assembly’s 1975 resolution calling Zionism “a form of racism and racial discrimination” that was revoked in 1991. Nearly 30 years later, Al Habib said, “it is crystal clear that by doing so, the U.N. General Assembly has only emboldened Israel to legalize racism.”
"The occupation of Palestine has been the main root cause of the conflicts in the Middle East", he added.
Meanwhile, Palestine's envoy to the United Nations Riyad Mansour, said that the new law “has transformed a situation of de facto apartheid into a situation of apartheid by law.”
Tensions have been running high along the fence separating Gaza from the Israeli-occupied territories since March 30, which marked the start of a series of protests, dubbed “The Great March of Return,” demanding the right to return for those driven out of their homeland.
The Gaza clashes reached their peak on May 14, the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Nakba Day (the Day of Catastrophe), which coincided this year with the US embassy relocation from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.
Nearly 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces ever since anti-occupation protest rallies began in the Gaza Strip on March 30.
A total of 14,811 Palestinians have also sustained injuries, of whom 366 are reportedly in critical condition.
