Tehran (IP) - Iran's foreign ministry in a statement warned the European countries against their alleged intention to impose new arms embargo against the Islamic Republic.

Iran PressIran news:  The EU and the European Troika decided to stop their commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or the so-called JCPOA, they signed with Iran.

Iran's international nuclear agreement or the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was signed between the country and P5+1 countries (Russia, China, UK, Germany, France, and the US) in 2015, to lift the West's sanctions on Iran, but the US scrapped it on May 18, 2018, re-imposing more sanctions on Iran.Issuing a statement, Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the decision an illegal act and against the provisions of the JCPOA and Resolution No. 2231.

In response to the US' scrapping of the JCPOA and its reimposition of more sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran took scale-back measures under articles 26 and 36 of the international document.

The statement said Iran gave a 1-year deadline to the European parties to compensate for the US" illegal action of withdrawing from the JCPOA, and after that, it gradually started compensatory steps in order to provide the European parties with a chance to make up for that while keeping the door of diplomacy open.

It noted that the Iranian side's scale-backs were defined within the framework of the JCPOA, an issue acknowledged by the Europeans and that the European side's withdrawing from the international agreement as a reaction was totally illegal.

Iran's MFA warned that the actions of the European parties will definitely leave negative effects on the efforts to manage the tension and to create a constructive environment for more cooperation between the JCPOA parties.

The Islamic Republic will surely respond to the EU and European Troika's violation of their commitments to the JCPOA and Resolution No. 2231 in a due manner and within the framework of the very JCPOA.
