Iran Press/ Iran News: The research procedure of the medicine took ten years and will be mass-produced to meet the country's needs and be exported.
BioDiab, produced by an Iranian knowledge-based company Tak-Gene, is also undergoing the procedure to get WHO's approval.
Patients with diabetes types 1, and 2 and also, prediabetic patients can use the medicine to control the disease.
Niloufar Hassannejad, the medical manager of the Tak-Gene company, told Iran Press: "The medicine (BioDiab) helps these sorts of patients to improve their health."
She stressed that BioDiab had got the approval of Iran's Food and Drug Administration to get into the market and to other countries soon.
BioDiab is a probiotic medicine and uses live microorganisms that have positive effects by balancing the microbial population in the body. Probiotics alter metabolic conditions like diabetes in the body by affecting digestive microbiota. They improve the host metabolism. So, these days they are highly recommended for regulating and modulating microbiota and metabolic activities.
According to the website of the producing company Tak-Gene, the BioDiab is effective in controlling blood sugar, regulating metabolism, decreasing oxidative stress damages, improving HbA1c and fasting insulin level (blood sugar control factors), decreasing resistance to insulin (HOMA-IR) and balancing immune system.
Clinical trials have also shown the effectiveness of probiotics in controlling diabetes. For instance, in a clinical trial that was done by Firouzi et al. on 136 patients with diabetes type 2, Probiotic with lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus lactis, lactobacillus casei, bifidobacterium longum, bifidobacterium bifidum, and bifidobacterium infantis strains, was administered for 12 weeks and the results showed a significant decrease in fasting insulin, insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and HbA1c.
