Ufa (IP) - Iran won the junior team title above Russia and United States by taking 178 points at the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships held in Russia.

Iran PressEurope: Off the performance of 5 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, Iranian freestyle wrestlers won the team title by a whopping 36 points over second-place Russia.

In fact, Iran had the team title locked up before the final day of medal matches even started.

In the 61 kilograms category, Rahman Amouzad won the gold medal after a break in the first round, defeating opponents from Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, and India.

In the 81 kilograms category, Amir-Hossein Firoozpour defeated the representatives of Germany, Russia, Georgia, and France to win the gold medal of the UWW Junior World Championships.

At the end of the first five weight categories, Erfan Elahi and Mohammad Nokhodi also grabbed gold in the weights of 70 and 79 kg, respectively.

In the heavyweight 125 kilograms category, Ali Akbarpour managed to win the gold medal of the championships commenced on Monday in Ufa, Russia.

The team performance from Iran was still overwhelmingly impressive and should be refreshing to Iranian fans coming off a down Olympics.

What's also notable for Iran's team is the number of Junior reps who will be at Senior Worlds in October. It's being reported that up to 6 of the junior reps will also compete at Senior Worlds (57, 61, 65, 70, 74, and 79).
