Iran Press/ Middle East: Speaking at the opening ceremony, Iran's Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development, Amir Amini, emphasised that the joint technical committee meeting signified the determination of both sides to deepen their strategic relations and cooperation.
Amini said that he hoped the Damascus meeting would result in agreements that would benefit both sides.
Turning to the defeat of terrorists in Syria, Iran's deputy minister said those countries which brought war and destruction to Syria eight years ago, are now well-aware of the resistance and resilience of the Syrian nation, and are now trying, rather belatedly, to rebuild shattered economic and business ties with the government in Damascus.
Amini added: "Just as we assisted Syria in the long fight against Takfiri terrorists, we will help Syria in the painstaking reconstruction process which has begun."
For her part, the Deputy head of the Organization for Planning and International Cooperation of Syria, Sorraya Idlibi, said that Damascus was very hopeful about the long-term economic and business relations with Tehran.
The head of the Syrian delegation, Idlibi added: "Bilateral cooperation between Syria and Iran has already resulted in signing of significant agreements in the oil and gas sector, agriculture, and opening of various lines of credit between Damascus and Tehran. Moreover, a joint economic cooperation agreement was signed by both sides in 2015."
The aim of the joint technical committee meeting is to draw up a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Damascus.
