Iran President and Japan PM to meet at UN

Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe and Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani are planning to meet in late September at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a Japanese newspaper reported.

Iran Press/Asia: According to The Japan Times, the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe and Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani are planning to meet in late September at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The news came as Abe on Wednesday held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, stressing that Japan will be mindful of the intentions of Iran's officials and continue to work for regional stability.

At the outset of the meeting with Abe in Yokohama, Zarif said: “Iran welcomes the Japanese government’s role in trying to ease tensions in the Middle East.”

He added, “Iran is not hoping tensions rise further in the Middle East”.

Meanwhile, the head of Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group appreciated Japan for its support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and said that Tehran awaits Tokyo's practical move vis-a-vis the US unlawful sanctions on Iran

Iranian MP, Assadollah Abbasi and the delegation accompanying him to Japan said in a meeting with Speaker of Japanese House of Representatives Tadamori ?shima that expansion of ties between the two countries is of great importance and that Iran-Japan Friendship Group has an important role in this respect.

Abbasi said that Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo's visit to Tehran and Speaker of Iran's Majlis Ali Larijani's visit to Tokyo were turning points in the political and parliamentary relations between the two countries.

He added that Iran and Japan can cooperate on bilateral, regional, and international ties, as well as peace and stability in the Middle East and fighting terrorism and monitoring the implementation of international agreements.

Oshima said in the meeting that the ties between Iran and Japan are of great significance and Japan supported the expansion of friendly relations.
