Iran Press/ Asia: Iran's Paralympic quotas doubled for the Paris 2024 Games after Olad won a silver medal in the discus throw. This brings Iran's total medal count to six.
The F11 discus throwing competition took place this morning during the seventh day of the tenth round of the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris 2023.
Mehdi Olad competed against athletes from Spain, India, Cameroon, Poland, Brazil, Finland, and Austria.
The gold medal went to Brazilian thrower Alessandro da Silva with 45.30 meters.
Spaniard athlete Alvaro del Amo Cano seized the bronze with 37.60 meters.
Three days ago, Olad secured a gold medal in the weight-throw competition. Today, he won a silver medal in the discus throw and set a new Asian record with a throw of 43.73 meters, securing his spot in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Among Iranian athletes, Saeed Afrooz and Rashid Masjedi won gold medals, Mehdi Olad won gold and silver medals, Amir Khosravani won a silver medal, and Hashemiyeh Mottaghian won bronze medals.
So far, Saeed Afrooz, Mehdi Olad (2 quotas), Elnaz Darabian, Amir Khosravani, Elham Salehi, Amanullah Papi, Hashemiyeh Mottaqian, Rashid Masjedi, and Alireza Mokhtari have secured Paris 2024 Paralympic quotas.
Next year in Paris, athletes from 107 nations will compete in 168 medal events, with over 1,300 participants. This will be the first time the World Championships are held in the Paralympic host city one year before the Games, and many of the athletes will also be competing in the Paralympics.
