Iran Press/Iran news: In a letter released on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei urged the government to start the reconstruction of the flood-stricken areas as soon as possible and gave them permission to withdraw money from the National Development Fund of Iran (NDFI), only if using the Fund's resources are absolutely necessary for the reconstruction process.
Last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani asked the Leader’s permission for withdrawing money from NDFI in a bid to secure compensation for a part of the damages caused by the devastating floods that hit most of the Iranian provinces, Iran Press reported.
Since March 19, large parts of Iran have been inundated with flash floods. So far, about 76 people have lost their lives and hundreds of thousands been displaced.
In the open session of the parliament on Sunday April 14, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said floods have left nearly $2.5 billion in damages. He said floods have hit 25 provinces. He also called on all state bodies to be prepared for probable heavy rainfalls in future days. 101
