Iranian Envoy to Baghdad and the Iraqi president sat for the regional talks and the latest developments in the Middle East.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi and Iraqi President Barham Salih in a meeting on Saturday discussed regional developments as well as the ways for de-escalating tensions.

The two sides stressed the need for reliance on constructive dialogue for de-escalating regional tensions and reinforce stability in the region, reported Iran Press.

The meeting took place amid rising threats and provocative measures of the United States in the recent weeks against the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Washington and certain Arab states’ hype.

Earlier on May 16, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations says the Islamic Republic is not interested in escalating regional tensions but has the 'right to defend ourselves.' Majid Takht-e Ravanchi makes the comments in an interview Thursday on NPR’s 'Morning Edition.'

According to Iran Press news agency, Takht-e Ravanchi says: “We are not interested in the escalation of tensions in our region. If something goes wrong, everyone loses.”

The Iranian diplomat also highlighted that Iran should always be prepared to defend it's territorial integrity and sovereignty. He went on to stress that: “It is our right to be prepared. It is our right to defend ourselves.” He accused the US and regional nations of airing 'false allegations' about Iran. Iran's ambassador to the UN, concluded that some of there are some people in Washington and even in the region who wishes for the escalation of the regional tensions.213/203
