Iran PressAsia: Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, met with Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rezayev to discuss consular matters and Iranian prisoners in Azerbaijan on July 14 in Baku.

A while ago, the Iranian ambassador in Baku and the head of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan discussed increased cooperation between the two countries customs departments, particularly in the four border areas.

The Republic of Azerbaijan, Iran's neighbor, has sought to expand cooperation in various fields in recent years with Iran.

Relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan accelerated after meeting the two countries' presidents on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Ashgabat on November 28, 2021. However, following the armed attack, carried out by self-motivation, on Azerbaijan's embassy in Tehran on January 27, 2023, which led to the death of one person and the injury of two employees of the embassy, the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan decided to evacuate its embassy in Tehran. Of course, the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tabriz continued to operate.

Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, visited Baku to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Foreign Ministers' Meeting. During the event, he held talks with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
