Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehan (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman denied the allegations made by the US diplomat about Iran and Venezuela trade ties, saying the US is trying to prevent the Venezuelan government from rebuilding its refineries by making such allegations.

Iran Press/Iran NewsSeyyed Abbas Mousavi called the US special envoy for Venezuela Elliott Abrams’ allegations as baseless and an intention to put more pressure on the Venezuelan government.

He said the allegations are a way to disrupt and interfere in trade relations between Iran and Venezuela.

Mousavi further noted: “The US government, which has failed to implement its policies in Venezuela, including economic sanctions, military threats and the recent formation of the Transitional Council, is using the allegations to block the Venezuelan government's plan to rebuild its refineries and produce oil products, including gasoline, which is currently facing a shortage of supply due to US sanctions."

Elliott Abrams has claimed that Venezuela is paying for Iran's services in the country's oil industry with gold.

Abrams claimed that “Iran has been sending ‘more and more planes’ to the South American nation, including this week. Our guess is that they are being paid in gold. Those planes that are coming in from Iran and are bringing things for the oil industry are returning with the payments for those things: gold."

President Donald Trump's administration has imposed unilateral US sanctions aimed at ending oil exports from both Iran and Venezuela, major crude producers.
