Herat (IP) - The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Afghanistan met and discussed with the head of the Afghanistan Railway Department about the expansion of cooperation in the Khaf-Herat railway sector.

Iran press/ Asia: Hassan Kazemi Qomi met with Bakhtur Rahman Sharaft, head of Afghanistan Railway Authority, and discussed the expansion of railway cooperation, including the operation of the Khaf-Herat railway, its completion and continuation. They also exchanged views on a number of issues, including educational, technical and equipment cooperation.

After the opening of line two of the Khaf (Eastern Iran) - Herat (Western Afghanistan) railway years ago in a virtual meeting of the former Presidents of Iran and Afghanistan, only a test train started running on this track, and the official operation of transporting goods and passengers on this rail route has not yet started.

This railway line, which was built with the help of Iran, has the capacity to transfer six million tons of goods and one million passengers annually.

The Herat-Khaf railway is 226 km long and connects Afghanistan to the Iranian railway.

77 km of this railway line was built in Iran and 149 km in Afghanistan.
