Iran Press/ Asia: Authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir imposed restrictions on Wednesday to stop traditional Muharram processions. Government forces were deployed in full strength and all routes were sealed in the capital Srinagar.
In spite of the clamp down, mourners defied restrictions at several places and tried to march through down town Srinagar. However, police started to fire tear gas shells to disperse the gatherings and scores of mourners were arrested with some of the mourners showing their anger over New Delhi's double standards.There has been already crackdowns on top religious leaders, placing them under house arrests.
The ban on Muharram mourning ceremonies has been in place since late 1980's in Kashmir. Only small mourning rallies and processions are allowed in few areas with sizeable Shia population.The Indian government has refused to respond positively to calls from religious and political organizations to lift the draconian ban.
New Delhi fears that the processions could be used as a tool to express anti Indian sentiments.
Muslims of the world have been always targeted during the performance of processions of the holy month of Muharram, marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of the younger grandson of Prophet Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny), the Chief of Martyrs Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
Meanwhile, in London England on 19 September 2018, a car crashed into a crowd of worshipers outside an Islamic centre, police said.

At least two people were rushed to hospital after the hit-and-run in Edgware Road, north-west London.
According to Daily express, the crash took place at approximately 12.35am BST on Wednesday outside the Al-majlis Al-Hussaini Islamic centre. After crashing into the crowd, the motorist drove away.

Imam Hussein was martyred on 10th of Muharram in the year 61 A.H. at the age of 57, in the desert of Karbala, in southern Iraq.
During his journey from Mecca to Karbala, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) stated: "The purpose of my journey is to expose the anti-Islamic and tyrannical rule of Yazid, to encourage the performance of good deeds and prohibit what is forbidden and unlawful, and to resist and stand up to repression and tyranny. My only objective is to support the Holy Quran, and to revive genuine Islam."
