Tehran (IP) - Indian finance minister has reiterated her country's stand on strategic relations with Iran to US secretary of the treasury during a meeting in New Delhi on Friday, a local daily reported.

Iran Press/Iran News: “From our side, we explained the Indian position, particularly the need to maintain land-based access to Afghanistan. We explained the need for us to have the Chabahar port link, and from there the rail corridor to Afghanistan," Nirmala Sitharaman was quoted saying.

This was conveyed to the visiting US Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin "in the face of denial of land access by Pakistan to Afghanistan," according to the Standard's website.

US unilateral anti-Iran sanctions have adversely affected India's developing of the deep sea Chabahar Port and New Delhi's plans to use it as an economic and trade corridor to landlocked Afghanistan.

"This is especially in the context of Pakistan denying us access through land,” the Indian official told her visiting US counterpart whose government in Washington has failed to understand Iran's geostrategic regional advantages.
