Iran Press/Iran news: At the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday morning Defence Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami also announced the commissioning of the tactical battlefield vehicle, Aras 2 into the Iranian armed forces.

Commenting on the capabilities of the new tactical vehicle Hatami said: "It is a very agile vehicle, which can be used in mountainous and difficult terrain. It can be fitted with heavy military equipment including machine guns. It has a powerful engine with high torque and compared to an earlier generation of tactical military vehicles, the Aras 2 can carry more weight, it is faster and more powerful, it is  more fuel-efficient and less polluting, and can be fitted with heavier and more advanced military equipment."

The Defence Minister added: "This tactical vehicle has been designed to fulfil a need within the Iranian armed forces, an today, large numbers of these vehicles will be commissioned into the Iranian Armed Forces."

Brigadier General Hatami went on to praise the engineers and scientists working for the Ministry of Defence who designed and manufactured the Aras 2 tactical battlefield vehicle and thanked hi-tech knowledge-based companies and other private firms, which assisted in the manufacture of various components and parts.

In further remarks, Defence Minister Hatami said: "The manufacture of these advanced tactical military vehicles is a significant step forward for Iran's armed forces, bearing in mind that previously only a handful of countries had such advanced technology.

In view of the fact that some car manufacturers in Iran are finding it difficult to obtain some parts and components for their products, the Ministry of Defence proudly announces its readiness to supply Iranian car manufacturers with components and parts which hitherto were not available because of (US-imposed) sanctions.

"The Ministry of Defence can help out the car manufacturing industry particularly when sanctions have been imposed upon us," he concluded.
