Iran news: Speaking on Thursday, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, Bahram Ghassemi, chided US president, Donald Trump for not meeting with any Iraqi officials during his three-hour unannounced visit to a military base in al-Anbar province in western Iraq, saying the visit did not comply with diplomatic norms and can be viewed as showing disrespect for the Iraqi government, and disrespect for Iraq's sovereignty, Iran Press reported.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Bahram Ghassemi said: "Vigilant regional countries will not allow aggressive foreigners to cause rifts and divisions among regional nations. In fact, the vigilant regional countries fought and defeated various Terrorist groups which were being supported by the Americans and the Israeli regime."
Ghassemi also advised US president to seriously look again at his policies in the Middle East region, and to learn lessons from his past mistakes.
On December 26, Donald Trump visited American military forces in Iraq on a surprise trip and met with US service members stationed at the Al Asad Air Base.
Trump has said US forces will stay in Iraq and could reenter Syria from there.
