Iran Press/ Middle East: The Iraqi security authorities have imposed a curfew in Dhi Qar, Basra, Wasit, Muthanna, and Babel provinces starting Friday night. The curfew will be in place until further notice.
According to Iraq's High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR), at least 25 demonstrators were killed and about 2000 others injured during demonstrations in some areas in Iraq, the Baghdad Post reported.
Iraq has been rocked by angry and violent protests for the past few weeks. The protesters are dissatisfied with inadequate public services, a lack of job opportunities particularly for young people, and widespread bureaucratic corruption. The protests have been marred by violence, with dozens of people being killed and many others injured in clashes between the demonstrators and police.
Meanwhile, Iraq's most senior religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali al-Sistani has appealed to demonstrators not to vandalise or smash public or private property, as well as avoiding physical violence. He has also called for the setting up of an independent judicial commission (judicial committee) to look into the recent protests and demonstrations in Iraq.
