In recent years, the Iranian government has been shifting more and more towards a knowledge-based economy that thrives on research and plays a significant role in entrepreneurship.

Iranian knowledge-based companies have been successful in expanding products in the market that may have been previously imported.

Since 2013, the number of Iranian knowledge-based firms and startups has increased from 50 to nearly 7000 companies, according to the vice presidency office for Science and Technology.

The National Innovation Fund says tech firms and knowledge-based companies gained over $5-billion in revenues last year.

Speaking at the event, Sorena Sattari referred to the need to create a knowledge-based ecosystem in the country, saying that reducing investment risk and supporting business accelerators are solutions to develop a knowledge-based economy.

In an interview with Iran Press on the sidelines of the ceremony, Mohammad-Ali Zolfigol referred to the Ministry of Science’s plans to support knowledge-based companies and said: "According to Budget Law 1401 (starting from March 21, 2022), the Ministry of Science can provide more support to science parks and create the favorable conditions for the technology cores located in growth centers and science and technology parks so that they would become knowledge-based companies and improve."
