Speaking at an assembly in Mazandaran, the President of Iran highlighted the firm position by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Leader that the Iran will not seek nuclear arms, noting that the Leader's authority is mandatory for all politicians.

Why it matters:

Such a declration is a consolidation of the fact that unlike the Uinted States, Islamic Republic of Iran does not need nuclear weapons and consider it a crime in terms of religion. This directly challenges the narrative of Western skeptics who view the program with suspicion.

The big picture:

Iran has made great use of nuclear indudustry in idiffernt areas of the daily life of people, including the constant achievements in radiopharmaceuiticals that has greatly affectyed the treatment of patients. As the nuclear industry has significantly contributed to the rapid advancement of the country in the region, it has made the West irriated to stop the progress in the name of the fight against weapons of mass destruction. So, they are continously doing propganda, labeling Iran as country that is pursuing nuclear bomb.

What he's saying:

Pezeshkian: "The Leader said we will not have nuclear weapons and if he says we won't, it means we won't. Even if I wanted to go against this direction, it is not possible from a religious standpoint. A politician may speak based on expediency, but a religious leader cannot speak against belief and religious law."

He also referred to the U.S. president's fabricated figures against Iran when Trump was addressing the U.S.-Israeli unrest in the country on January 8-9:

"The government announced the official number of fatalities based on the victims’ national identification codes. Anyone who claims the number is higher should present documented evidence. More than 2,000 of those who lost their lives are martyrs; among them, 300 to 400 were security personnel who were martyred while defending their country’s security. These [rioters] individuals did not come to the streets to protest.

The point:

Pezeshkian's remarks serve to remind both international observers and domestic factions that this particular policy is not merely the stance of an administration that could change in a few years, but a fundamental doctrine rooted in the Leader's religious authority and beliefs, making it a permanent strategy.
