Former EU foreign policy chief called on the European Union in a sharp critique of European inaction, to break further silence and develop a clear strategy to help end the Israeli war on Gaza.

Backed by the U.S. and a number of European countries such as U.K. and France, Israel launched new aggression on Iran and its infrastructure, including nuclear facilites, which claimed hundreds of lives.

Since the beginning of its all-out war on Gaza in October 2023, the Israeli regime has bombed the strip’s people and infrastructure thanks to the silence of the international bodies including the EU.

Josep Borrell voiced strong disapproval over the EU’s fragmented and inconsistent responses to the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza while speaking at a policy forum on Saturday.

Over 56,000 have been killed in Gaza and the rest are grappling with famine due to the Israeli war and blochade. He warned about continued passivity over threatens both regional and European security.

“The European Union must assume responsibility and present a practical and independent plan to end the conflict,” Borrell stated. “Europe’s own security is now at risk.”

He further stressed that European nations carry not only a political but also a moral obligation to respond decisively to ongoing violations of international law by the Israeli regime.
