The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza stated that 35 Palestinians were killed and 109 others were wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza over the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll since October 7, 2023, to more than 52,400.

Why it matters:

The figures point to the scale and intensity of Israel’s ongoing bloodbath in Gaza. As international pressure mounts for a ceasefire, the civilian toll continues to rise with no clear end in sight.

The big picture:

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s assault on Gaza has resulted in at least 52,400 deaths and 118,014 injuries, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. The Palestinian Media Office in Gaza updated the death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead.

The surge in casualties underscores the deadly nature of the 18-month-long war. Even after March 18, when calls for de-escalation intensified, 2,308 more people have been killed and 5,973 wounded.

Two months after the shaky ceasefire went into effect on January 19, on Tuesday morning, March 18, the Israeli regime resumed its genocidal strikes on Gaza. A large-scale assault on Gaza led to at least 404 Palestinian deaths and 562 injuries in one day. International condemnation followed the strikes.

Context:

The Israeli attack on Gaza has devastated the infrastructure in the Strip such that after the huge massacre, which is still ongoing, the people in Gaza are struggling with starvation and diseases.
