UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the Israeli carnage in Gaza shows no signs of abating, as hopes for what he believes as a two-state solution grow increasingly fragile amid deepening conflict and legal rulings against Israeli occupation.

Why it matters:

Guterres’ stark assessment reflects the paralysis of international diplomacy and the erosion of viable peace pathways. With the humanitarian toll in Gaza mounting and political instability spreading, the risk of broader regional destabilization is rising.

What he’s saying:

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said there is no end in sight to the killing in Gaza.

He added that the "two-state solution" is extremely weakened at the moment, and we must not allow it to collapse.

He referenced the International Court of Justice’s recent declaration that the Israeli regime’s presence in Gaza is illegal under international law.

He also expressed concern over the Palestinian Authority, which is facing intensifying pressure in the occupied West Bank.
