The UN Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, Volker Türk arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a two-day visit.

Volker Türk’s trip is aimed at verifying UNHCR commitment to maintain cooperation with Iran.

He is also slated to hold meeting with senior Iranian senior officials and other humanitarian bodies which have cooperation with UNHCR.

He will present a report on the latest developments of the Global Compact for Refugees.

The global compact on refugees is a unique opportunity to strengthen the international response to large movements of refugees and protracted refugee situations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the main contributors in supporting refugees, hosting around one million Afghan refugees for some forty years.
