Baku (IP): The Republic of Azerbaijan on Thursday announced it has begun construction of a new road from the city of Astara to the border of the Islamic Republic of Iran to facilitate the transit between the two countries.

Iran Press/Asia: According to the media of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the new 3.05 km road is part of the Baku-Astara highway on the border of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was opened two years ago.

 

The new road in Astara will be 26.5 meters wide and four-lane, which will be connected to the planned road bridge, and a 30-meter tunnel is to be built along this road.

According to the report, the project to build a new 97.5-meter-long and 30.5-meter-wide bridge on the border between the two countries was prepared some time ago, in which two lanes will be used for vehicles with two other reserve lanes and 2.5 meters sidewalk crossings have been planned.

The state road construction company of the Republic of Azerbaijan stated that the purpose of building this new road is to provide easy transportation between two countries

The company plans to complete the construction of this new road by the end of 2020.
