Middle East: According to an Iran Press report, with grief-stricken hearts, thousands of the faithful across the British capital of London along with their fellow Shia Muslims worldwide held massive mourning ceremonies in the lunar month of Safar to commemorate the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny).

Arbaeen, meaning “the fortieth” in Arabic, is observed 40 days after Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar calendar month of Muharram, when Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was martyred along with dozens of his companions at the hands of the tyrant of the time, Yazid I, more than thirteen centuries ago.
The mourning ceremony began and was soon established when Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari, a close follower of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), then 77, visited Imam Hussein's grave as the Imam's first pilgrim, 40 days after Ashura.
Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is the symbol of resistance against oppression. The choice made by Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and his small group of family members and companions (peace be upon them), has been a source of inspiration for not just Muslims but for all of humanity, throughout history.
Each year, Shiite Muslims from Iran and other regional countries attend the Arbaeen mourning ceremonies held in the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is located.
