New York (IP) - Colonel Larry Wilkerson, Chief of Staff under former Secretary of State Colin Powell, said the treatment of protesters in the country was similar to the behavior of Mussolini in Italy and Hitler in Germany.

Iran Press/America: He continued, "Over the past 200 years, there has always been a connection between the military and our civil society, and that is why our democratic republic has come together. But what is happening now in Washington DC is the erosion and breakdown of this connection in front of our eyes.

"This is a matter of great concern to me because it is a fundamental right that our democracy has upheld so far, and now we see it disappearing before our eyes," he added.

Widespread protests and riots have started in many US states after the death of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis, who was killed by a white police officer while being arrested.

Following the anti-racism protests, a curfew has been imposed in 40 US cities, including Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and New York.
